Marvin was born in Wetaskiwin, Alberta. After studying law at the University of British Columbia he was called to the British Columbia Bar in 1974. Following a few years of practice in Langley and Richmond Marvin moved his law practice to Sooke in 1980. At that time the firm was operating from his historic house in the town center. While Marvin practiced law in one half of the house, his wife Sylvia operated an elegant tea house on the other side.

Marvin’s generosity and close community ties have benefited the community greatly since his arrival in Sooke. The Sooke Community Association, Sooke Region Historical Society, Juan de Fuca Salmon Restoration Society and Sooke Philharmonic Society, among many others, have benefited from Marvin’s benevolent approach to community matters.

When not at the office Marv enjoys fishing, golfing and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
